Dr. Lehman is a licensed clinical psychologist.  He graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with highest honors in the psychology major and college honors for overall academic excellence.  After graduating from UC Santa Cruz he cooked for a year at one of the country’s early farm to table restaurants, Chez Panisse, in Berkeley, California. He then spent time conducting psychological research and clinical work at the University of Michigan. From there he went on to do his graduate training at Yale University where he earned the M.S., M.Phil., and his PhD degree in Clinical Psychology.  While at Yale Dr. Lehman conducted research and clinical training in the areas of eating disorders and the psychotherapy process.  He also served as Assistant Director and Clinical Intake Supervisor of the Yale Psychological Services Clinic, and Assistant Clinical Director, of the Yale Eating Disorders Clinic, among other positions

Dr. Lehman moved to Seattle, WA in 1990 where he completed his Pre-Doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Washington, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  He then completed an advanced Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Anxiety and Depressive Disorders at the University of Washington, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  

Since 1992 Dr. Lehman has been in full time clinical practice providing a safe and welcoming space for outpatient psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, elders, and couples. Dr. Lehman also holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Washington, Department of Psychology providing training and psychotherapy supervision to PhD level graduate students.  Dr. Lehman has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and presented at regional and national meetings on topics such as: eating disorders, the psychotherapy process, therapist preferences for certain patient types, cognitive behavior therapy, and personality and depression subtypes.

Dr. Lehman offers psychotherapy services that are both practically useful and clinically insightful.  His clinical work is an integration of both psychodynamic and cognitive perspectives.  The cognitive and psychodynamic schools of psychotherapy are both well established approaches to the psychotherapy process.  Dr. Lehman strives to tailor treatments to best suit a patient’s immediate needs.  Psychotherapy is an endeavor which, through self exploration and understanding, creates a greater sense of choice and freedom from past constraints. In the end, a well conducted course of treatment offers one the opportunity to live life as desired.
